The Primaries Are Coming! BQNOW IS READY
It’s that time again: Primary Day in New York! Oh yes!! NY State Primary Day is Tuesday, June 25th.
Early voting began on Saturday, June 15th. June 15th was also the date by which you had to be registered in a party to be eligible to cast a Primary Ballot. So unfortunately, if you haven’t registered yet, it’s too late for the primary. But make sure you are registered to vote in November. Here’s a link to a fillable New York State Voter Registration form. Please share the link with anyone you know who is not registered.
BQNOW’s Election Committee developed a Candidate Questionnaire that we believe allows candidates seeking NOW endorsement to identify and expand upon those issues of particular interest to our membership.
When the candidate list was finalized by the Board of Elections, we identified Brooklyn and Queens primary races. To see who is on YOUR ballot, here’s a link to the NYC Board of Elections. Please save it for future reference.
Attached you’ll find a listing of the candidates who were sent questionnaires and whether or not they responded. We found three who merited our recommendation. They are:
Assembly District 35 Queens – Democrat Larinda C. Hooks
Assembly District 37 Queens – Democrat Claire Valdez
Assembly District 56 Brooklyn – Democrat Stefani L. Zinerman (incumbent)
According to NOW-NY Guidelines, local chapters may only recommend a NYS candidate (NYS Assembly and NYS Senate) to NOW-NY. Our recommendations will be considered when NOW-NY makes endorsements. Congressional candidates can only be endorsed by National NOW.
After the results of the primary races are in, we’ll begin work contacting Brooklyn and Queens candidates for the November 5th General Election. Please join the Election Committee to vet candidates for these important Congressional and State races!
Help keep feminist issues a top priority for those who represent us!
And remember:
VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
